Heroic Leadership as an Aero‑Rifle Platoon Leader

While leading an aero‑rifle platoon with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 1LT Douglas Haywood distinguished himself during a reconnaissance mission in enemy‑controlled territory. After several soldiers were wounded by small‑arms and RPG fire, he led their recovery, coordinated evacuation, and then pursued the fleeing enemy—reestablishing contact and inflicting losses. His coolness under fire and decisive leadership brought great credit to himself and the 11th ACR.
