Heroism Rescuing the Wounded Under Intense FireLt. John Drupa earned the Silver Star for rescuing wounded soldiers and organizing a withdrawal during a night assault, repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire and eliminating snipers blocking evacuation. He later received the Bronze Star with Valor for flanking an enemy attack to enable the evacuation of casualties.

Heroism Amid Rockets, Shrapnel, and ChaosDuring a fierce attack on Dong Ha, 1st Lt. Gordon Hanscom rushed into the impact area to aid the wounded and evacuate his men. Exposed to constant shrapnel and enemy fire, he organized the remaining troops and continued the fight, actions that earned him the Bronze Star with Valor.

Dennis Isom, '66
Infantry Captain, Vietnam WarCommissioned after graduating in 1966, Dennis Isom led Company A, 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry during Operation Wayne Grey in Vietnam. When a platoon came under heavy fire in the Plei Trap Valley, he rushed forward to reinforce them. While aiding a wounded radio operator, he was killed in action, exemplifying decisive combat leadership.

Heroism while Reinforcing a Besieged Fire Support BaseWhile leading a battalion task force to reinforce embattled troops at Suoi Tre, 1st Lt. Charles E. March encountered a large Viet Cong force overrunning the fire support base. He deployed his platoon under heavy fire, used mobility and supporting weapons to counter the attack, and engaged the enemy at close range while securing the perimeter—actions that earned him the Bronze Star with Valor.

Unprotected, Under Fire, and UnwaveringDuring the Tet Offensive, 1LT William G. Pfeifle directed battalion operations from an exposed TACCP mounted on a MULE as enemy mortars and ground fire struck the area. He located enemy mortar flashes, coordinated counterbattery fire, managed evacuations, and maintained command and control for over an hour under extreme danger—earning the Bronze Star with Valor.

Silver Star and Purple Heart Recipient, VietnamDuring a 1968 convoy ambush in Vietnam, First Lieutenant David Wilson returned to the kill zone to lead his men to safety despite being out of danger. Mortally wounded while directing their escape, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for extraordinary leadership and courage.
