Notable Cadets of 1963
John "Jack" Lance Geoghegan
Brigade Commander and Army OfficerA standout cadet and Brigade Commander, Jack Geoghegan ’63 earned a master’s degree before joining the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division. During the 1965 Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam, he was killed while tending to a wounded soldier. His sacrifice joined the long line of PMC cadets who gave their lives in combat.

Larry Liss
Army Aviator, Distinguished Flying CrossAfter earning his commission in 1963, Larry Liss became a Huey helicopter pilot in Vietnam. During the ambush at Cau Song Be, he repeatedly flew into enemy fire to rescue surrounded South Vietnamese troops. Leaving the cockpit to assist evacuees, he helped save dozens of lives and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Valor.

Army General and Global CommanderA Distinguished Military Graduate, John Tilelli ’63 served more than thirty years in the U.S. Army, rising to four-star General. From Vietnam to Desert Storm and ultimately as Commander of U.N. and U.S. Forces in Korea, he exemplified combat leadership and strategic command at the highest levels. He has also been a longstanding member of Widener's Board of Trustees.

Clarence Bell
Heroism During Viet Cong AssaultFirst Lieutenant Clarence Bell earned the Bronze Star for heroism after rushing to the front under heavy Viet Cong fire, providing covering fire for the wounded, directing artillery, and conducting a delaying action that enabled his team’s safe withdrawal.
